Pig Iron

Pig Iron

Pig iron is an intermediate step in the production of steel and is produced by smelting iron ore in the blast furnace, which is large and cylinder-shaped and charged with iron ore, coke, and limestone. The removal, by oxidation, of impurities in pig iron and the reduction in the carbon content result in the production of steel. Merchant pig iron comprises three main types: basic pig iron, used mainly in electric arc steelmaking, foundry pig iron, used mainly in the manufacture of grey iron castings in cupola furnaces, and nodular pig iron, used in the manufacture of ductile iron castings.

FTX aims to provide high quality pig iron that brings many advantages to steel mills such as lower operating costs and environmental impact as well as greater raw materials and operational flexibility.
